A couple of years ago we bought all of our kids Keurig K-Cup refills for Christmas. They all had Keurig K-Cup Home Brewers, while me and the hubby stuck to our cheapo coffee maker. We shook our heads at the extravagance and secretly thought they were silly to spend so much on a coffee maker and those cute little flavored cups of coffee – although I had to admit, all of the flavors sounded tempting.
Well, the following year, they all pitched in and bought us a Keurig Home Brewer for Christmas. I smiled as I opened the gift, but was not thrilled at the thought of buying all of those little K-Cups. Luckily, the next box we opened held some K-Cups. We could humor them and at least make those. Well, that was the beginning of our Keurig downfall. We started drinking those cute little coffees every day. We found lots of flavors and it was fun to explore all of the different varieties! A whole new world of coffee opened up for us! I have to say, both of us felt just a little cooler.
Now, that has been over a year ago. We still love the Keurig Home Brewer and it gets used every day. I even devoted one large drawer in our basement kitchen just to the Keurig K-Cups (I bought the little organizers at Walmart if you want to give it a try yourself). Just opening the drawer makes me feel a little superior to those lowly folk who store their K-Cups in a box in their cupboards. I feel just a little smug every time I open the drawer.
We also found our favorite flavor (Timothy’s World Coffee, Kahlua Original, K-Cup Portion Pack for Keurig K-Cup Brewers 24-Count (Pack of 2)) for a great price on Amazon, so that helps. I also cheat and make a large cup of coffee with one K-Cup by running it through the regular cycle (for smaller cups), then taking the K-Cup out of the holder, twisting it around a little, putting it back in and closing the lid, and then reusing that K-Cup to make another smaller cup of coffee – thus filling up my big mug of coffee with only one K-Cup. I’m sure Keurig probably would not recommend that, but I’m cheap. My husband sticks to one K-Cup per cup of coffee, but he can be a bit high-faulting at times.
Now, we like this Keurig K-Cup Home Brewer so much that if it ever breaks down, we will be forced to buy another one – unless, of course, it is anywhere near Christmas….
